Library Walk Rain Date

Hello.

Due to some unexpected rain this morning, we did not walk to the library.  Instead, we will be walking to the library next Wednesday at 1:30pm.  The kids are extremely bummed but it seems that mother nature did not want to cooperate with us today.  Thank you for understanding.  Let's hope for some nice weather next Wednesday afternoon!

Weekly Update

All book orders are due Friday!  If you would like to place an order in the last book order please do so no later than 3:30pm on Friday, May 9!  Thank you for ordering from Scholastic Book Clubs this year!

We still need volunteers for our Track and Field Day on Friday, May 16th.  If you would like to help out with our fun filled day of track events, please let me know ASAP!  Thank you in advance!

We are walking to the library tomorrow.  Please make sure that your 2nd grader has on appropriate walking shoes and that they have their library card if they would like to check out any books.  If you sent back the request for a library card, they will have your child's card at the library for them tomorrow morning for them to check out books.  It will be you and your child's responsibility to return the books to avoid over due fees as we will not be going back this school year.

Have a great week!  Please, let me know if you have any questions!

Weekly Update

I apologize once again for the late updates but hopefully I can keep up until the end of the year!

We have a few things coming up that we need to make sure have been addressed.

1.  Some of you may have had your student come home with a Summer School paper.  Your student was chosen as a candidate for Summer School.  This is a great time to retain a lot of the information learned in 2nd grade and prepare for 3rd grade.  Please let me know, whether your child will attend or not attend summer school so we can make room for other students.  Thank you.

2.  Everyone came home with a blue paper on Tuesday addressing our Library Walk.  We will be walking to the library on Wednesday, May 7 from 9:00am-10:00am.  If your student has a library card, please have them bring it with them on that day so they can check out a book.  If your student does not have a library card and you would like for them to get one, please return the blue detachable slip and I will send home a paper for you to fill out and return.  If this is done, your child will have a library card ready for them on the day we walk and will be able to check out a book!

3.  Book Order Brochures came home today and this is the last one of the year.  If you would like to place an order, please send a check made out to Scholastic Reading Club with your order selections.  If you would like a larger selection than what is offered in the flyer, you can look at www.scholastic.com/readingclub  and place your order online using our classroom code (L3J99).

4.  Our last Homework Hoopla is quickly approaching.  The last celebration will be May 22.  We will be having popsicles at North Park.  Those who have three or less missing/late assignments will be able to attend.  Make sure to turn in that Math and Spelling Homework!

5.  May 28 we will be going to Lincoln to meet the third grade teachers and have a tour of the building from 9:50-10:30am. This is a great time for the students to get a feel of the building they will be in for the next three years.  Please let me know if you have any questions regarding orientation.

6.  We are on our last and final Math Unit and our last Reading Unit.  As the year comes to a close, I know the students are becoming excited to see an end in site.

7.  Stewart Carnival is this Saturday from 10am-2pm.  Come and support our Stewart Boosters!  A BIG thanks to Melissa Westphal for making two awesome reading baskets for the silent auction!  Have all coloring contest papers in by Friday, April 25!

Please let me know if you have any remaining questions!  I have tried to cover everything important but am sure I have forgotten something.  I apologize for the long post but want to keep you informed with end of the year events!

Have a great night and Friday!

Mrs. Allen

Weekly Update

Happy Friday!  It is a beautiful day!  I hope everyone has a chance to get out and enjoy it while it lasts!

Monday it is supposed to be chilly.  Please, make sure that your student has a coat.  Any temperatures below 60 a coat is required.  Thank you for your help!

Some of you have been asking me questions about coupons that the students have been earning.  For the last two weeks, if a student has completed all of their homework that was due, they are able to choose a coupon.  The coupons range from no homework to use a pen all day.  All they have to do is turn in the assignment with the coupon and I will exempt them from it no questions asked.  I still expect the students to practice spelling but if they choose to use it on a spelling packet, I do not mind!:)

Next week, we are going to be taking a peek at our test tubes of soil and water we had fun shaking and mixing up today.  We are going to be studying and investigating how different types of soil settle in water.  Some thought the water would evaporate, some thought the soil would turn to water and others though that there would be no change.  We are excited to see what will happen!

Thank you Angela Langstraat for coming and teaching the kids about saving money!  They had a blast.  Thank you so much for the penny jars as well.  I hope everyone begins saving money in their jars!

Congratulations to our leaders, Michael and Fernando!  Our VIP this week is D.J..

Have a great weekend!:)

Weekly Update...(a little late!)

Hello!

I hope that everyone is having a nice week and are enjoying the beautiful weather.  I know the kids are as am I!

This week our leaders are D.J. Lord and Audrey Nissley.  Congratulations!  Our VIP this week is Emma Langstraat.

Miles of Pennies to help childhood cancer is underway!  Please sent any lose change (pennies or other coins) to school with your child to help fight childhood cancer!

We will have a special guest on Friday, April 11!  Angela Langstraat is going to come into our classroom and talk to the students about money!:)  Be sure and ask your student about this fun opportunity.

We have begun Unit 8 in math.  We will be working with fractions.  The first homework assignment will come home today.  Make sure homework comes back tomorrow!  Spelling Packets are due Friday, April 11.

Remember that Homework Hoopla Celebration is quickly approaching.  Next Tuesday will be the last day to accept any late or missing assignments as Homework Hoopla is Thursday, April 17.  I hope to see several students attend!

This week we have read Half Chicken a folktake about a chicken that has helped others (water, fire and wind) and in return they helped him!  Ask your student about cause and effect this week.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Weekly Update...(A little late!)

Hello!

I hope everyone has been enjoying their week and are looking forward to the spring weather to come this weekend.  Hopefully it sticks around!

Just a couple of things to remember for the coming weeks...

We need snack!  We are getting down to the last of our stock.  If you are able, please send a snack with your student.  Thank you!

Homework, homework, homework.  Homework is really beginning to become a problem, Math and Spelling.  If your student wants to attend Homework Hoopla, they need to have three or less late homework assignments.  All of there homework will still need to be turned in.  If they are turning in a late assignment, it will be counted for credit but will still be late. This is to hopefully prepare them for third grade expectations.   Thank you for your help!

We are beginning lesson 23 of our Reading Series and will be reading The Goat and the Rug this week.  Ask your students about the story tomorrow night as well will read the story on Friday.

Tomorrow is crazy sock day.  Do not forget to wear those silly socks!

Thank you to Melissa Westphal, Angela Lanstraat and Kim Malichky for your help with Immigration Day.  We couldn't have done it without you!

Have a great Friday!

Mrs. Allen
